LANGDON SQUARE
COMMUNITY CENTRE
Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough,
TS8 OTF, Tel: (01642) 599723
The centre was
built over sixteen years ago and is thriving, but no matter how busy it
is, we want more people, especially from Coulby Newham, to make use of
a centre on their doorstep.
Langdon Square Community Centre is financially supported by Middlesbrough
Council and is jointly managed by a Community Manager (employed by the
Council) and a voluntary Management Committee. The centre is host to educational,
social and recreational activities every day of the week, from learning
Spanish and Italian to machine knitting and karate. The range of other
activities is enormous. There is Tweeney Tots (birth to school age) and
the Junior Youth Club (five to eleven). For older children there are speech
and drama classes, tap and ballet, karate and keyboard skills and of course,
there is folk dancing, tap, tea dances and line dancing.
If after that you still have energy to spare you can relax and join in
a game of carpet bowls.
WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO USE

Dear
Readers,
Welcome to Langdon Square Community Centre, a
place that offers a variety of activities for all the family. Most of
the groups that operate in the centre are open for new membership, or
if you have a group/organisation of your own that is seeking a room then
why not drop the Management Committee a line and we will help you in whatever
way we can. At the moment some of the groups, as follows, are on Summer
Vacation, so if you are interested in joining one, please contact the
centre first for details.

CLEVELAND FOLK DANCING CLUB
WEDNESDAY EVENING
The Folk Dancing Club has been
in existence for over 21 years. The club started in Normanby, moved to
Grove Hill and Berwick Hills before finding its permanent home at Langdon
Square. The Group is very active and if you join you will get a chance
to practice English, Scottish and American Country dances. You
don't need experience, a frock or cowboy boots, just bring yourself and
a bag of enthusiasm.
The session lasts for two and
a half hours, with a tea break in the middle. All this for only £1.00.
The group also holds a Christmas Party at the centre - so there is a bonus
to look forward to.

ARTHRITIS CARE
SECOND WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH
We are a social and welfare
self-help group and we meet on the second Wednesday of every month 7.15
to 9.15p.m. We are a
very friendly meeting with an attendance of around 70 members. We have
speakers, a quiz or entertainment, a raffle, a sales table, refreshments,
advice and support and
lots of good company. Our Welfare Officer will visit members ill or in
hospital with flowers and a get-well card and we can refer you to an Arthritis
Care visitor if you need support but do not wish to attend our monthly
meetings. We can supply you with leaflets on how to exercise and manage
your arthritis, as well as general support from our members who are all
coping with the same problems and anxieties. We have parties and organise
group outings and everyone helps to raise funds, all of which are spent
on people with arthritis living in our area.
Annual Subscription is
£6.00 and is due on 1 st January each year. (Most members pay this
at our January meeting) New members who join after 31 st September are
covered for the following 15 months.
If you would like to
join us or feel that you can help in any way, please contact the Secretary,
Mrs. Rita Cosgrove on 01287 637541
